What is the width of my saddle?

Different guitar builders make their saddles different widths. So when you're sticking a pickup in that saddle groove, it helps to know what size you're working with, lest you try to shove a wide saddle into a narrow slot. This is why, whenever purchasing an undersaddle pickup from Shoreline, you're given the option to choose between the wide or narrow format.

If you've never measured your saddle before, here's how:

You can tell from the picture that the saddle on my Northwood MJ is 1/8" wide. If I were to put a pickup under that saddle, I'd need the "wide" profile. Narrow saddles are closer to 3/32", a distinction that is easier to see with a ruler that measures down to 1/32".
