We're often asked to describe the tone of Ultrasound amplifiers, but this is a somewhat loaded question. That's because most acoustic guitar amps actually color the sound of your guitar, such that each amp has its own "signature tone". But Ultrasound amps have no such signature tone. When you plug in, the tone you hear is your guitar, and just your guitar. So while lots of acoustic amps may be loud, few, if any, are as transparent as Ultrasound amps. This feature alone sets them apart from most other acoustic amps. Their affordable sticker price is just icing on the cake. Ultrasound Amps have recently upgraded parts of their product line, so be sure to check out the new gear: AG-30 - This smaller cabinet makes a superlative practice amp or bench amp. It features 30 watts RMS output through a single 8" coaxial speaker and a 2" tweeter, EQ controls, sweepable notch filter, and an effects loop. Perhaps most important for stage musicians, it also features line and direct outs, so it can work as a stage monitor with a direct feed to a mixing console. 11"H x 16"W x 11"D. 20 lbs. AG-50DS4 - The DS4 is the current version of the most popular series of Ultrasound amps, the 50-watt AG models. It features the same transparent tone and light weight of the old DS3s, but adds a few cool new features. The most important is phantom power on the mic channel. The headphone out has also been sacrificed to make way for RCA ins (so you can practice along with a CD, most notably). The DS4 preserves all the hybrid jacks and footswitchable digital effects from the earlier models. 13"H x 18"W x 11"D. 26 lbs. High res photos: Front. Back. DSX Powerstack - Ultrasound's original solution to the need for more power was the old Pro 200 (since discontinued), and later, the 100 watt models like the Pro 100 (also discontinued) and CP-100 (listed below). But their newest solution is sure to please a lot of their fans: The DSX PowerStack. The PowerStack is pretty close to a pair of DS4 cabinets, but they're driven by a 100-watt power amp in the top cabinet. This gives you a 4x8, 100-watt acoustic cabinet, but one whose pieces are still light enough to carry into your gig without a roadie. CP-100 - The Ultrasound CP-100 is a bit smaller in dimension than the AG-50DS4, and a few pounds heavier, with a nearly identical feature set. The big difference here is that by using a dedicated tweeter and freeing up the 8" driver to handle the mids and lows, they can drive 100 watts RMS through it, all with that signature Ultrasound tone. 12"H x 16"W x 11"D. 30 lbs.
