LR Baggs IBeam	LR Baggs IBeam Active System	LR Baggs IBeam Onboard System

Like the PUTW guitar pickup and the K&K Pure, the LR Baggs IBeam is a soundboard pickup that adheres to the inside of your guitar. In doing so, it produces a remarkably natural tone by picking up the vibrations of the soundboard (rather than the vibration of the strings, as with undersaddle pickups). The IBeam is responsive enough that it will even pick up percussive effects and fingersqueak. Included with each IBeam is a placement jig that makes the pickup totally self-installable (provided you have the hole for the endpin jack in place). IBeams are shipped with extra adhesive strips on request in case you need to experiment with placement. It's also worth noting that the regular Baggs IBeam is a passive pickup. As such, it needs to be paired with a good preamp such as the Baggs Para-Acoustic DI.

One popular preamp solution is just to use the Baggs IBeam Active System pictured in the center frame above. The IBeam Active adds an all-discrete Class A endpin preamp inside your guitar for a simple and affordable plug-and-play solution. Not only does this mean that you don't have to mess with (and carry) an external preamp, but we've also found that the tone of the Ibeam really does benefit from the onboard electronics. All the new Ibeam Active models also include a nifty volume control that mounts invisibly inside your soundhole.

The Baggs IBeam Onboard System does the IBeam Active one better: It includes a full-featured onboard preamp for fingertip control of EQ, notch filtering, and volume. The preamp itself is designed to retrofit into the hole left by your factory-installed Fishman Prefix or similar preamp--it even uses the same screwholes.

If you're looking to use the Baggs Ibeam as part of a dual-source setup, then it's worth considering the Imix and the Imix Onboard System. Both of these systems pair the Ibeam with Baggs' other most popular pickup, the Element (you can read more about this pickup on our main Baggs page). The regular Imix is a new offering. It includes an internal preamp (so, no surgery on your guitar), with screwdriver controls for tone shaping. Blending takes place at your fingertips via soundhole-mounted controls, along the lines of the hidden volume control for the Baggs Ibeam Active.

The Imix Onboard System is similar in design to the Ibeam Onboard System. It retrofits into the standard Fishman barn door, and its preamp blends the Ibeam and Element pickups.
