Shoreline Music: Acoustic Guitars
Well, the signup deadline has passed, and we're getting as excited as you are to see the guitar that Dermot is building right now. The contest was a tremendous success--while we had hoped that we'd get around 10,000 or so signups, we ended up with more than 58,000. Needless to say, you're probably checking in to this page to see if you're the winner. Well, if you're Rick Glowiak, then you are indeed the winner. Thanks to everyone who signed up; sorry I could only give away one guitar!

Here's a picture that Dermot sent us of the wood he's using for the guitar:

Also, I've compiled a list of some of the comments that were left by customers entering the giveaway. Although this list has been edited down from the thousands of comments we received, it makes for a fun read (I haven't edited all the typos):

101 reasons I want to win the Shoreline Mcilroy:(yes, these were submitted in sequence by a customer)
Reason#101- I look good playing a Mcilroy
#100- My wife has taken away my guitar allowance.
#99- It will make me a better Cocobolo spokesperson
#98- By playing the A55 early in the morning I will force my sons to get a place of their own!
#97- So I can start every morning opening the case of my A55 and enjoy the aroma of Cocobolo
#96 - I will practice more and eat less... winning the A55 will actually be a way of improving my health through weight loss!
#95 -Winning this A55 has been endorsed by my physician
#94- Winning the A55 will simply make me smile a lot.... improving my facial features
#93- Most of my clothes are in earth tones, so the Cocobolo A55 will not clash with my wardrobe.... this is important to my wife and co-workers. We all know a color coordinated guitar player is easier on the eyes
#92- If there were a guitar Cupid he would without a doubt match my Mcilroy AJ25 with an A55 Cocobolo Mcilroy! It goes without saying he would be very careful with the arrow placement....
#91- for me “the pursuit of happiness” means playing a Mcilroy A55 ....
#90- My Mcilroy AJ25 already thinks it is the greatest guitar in the world.... an A55 in cocobolo would keep it from getting completely stuck up!
#89- Lately there has been too much month at the end of my paychecks ....think of it as guitar welfare!
#88- If Walt Whitman were alive he would play a Mcilroy A55!!
#87- If I don’t win the Mcilroy A55 I will have to buy one which will seriously cut into my wife’s jewelry budget....trust me, for my sake this is not a good thing!!!
#86- A cocobolo Mcilroy is to all other guitars what a fine tweed sportcoat is to a polyester sport coat..... Wining the A55 will make me a sharply dressed guitar player ( please don’t make me wear a Martin!!!!!)
#85- I figure If a guitar shop in the mountains of Colorado can call itself “Shoreline” I can win a Mcilroy.... stranger things have happened!
#85- Mick Jagger sings “You can't always get what you want, but sometimes you get what you need”.... well, I not only want the Mcilroy A55 I NEED it!
#84 - I dreamt of bowling with coconuts last night.... it doesn’t take Freud to deduce I need a coco-bowlo Mcilory to make my dreams come true!
[#82 and #83 got skipped]
#81- I have been saving money for a pilgrimage to Ireland to pay homage to the maker of my beloved AJ25. If I win the A55 I won’t have to buy it, which will get me to Ireland quicker....
#80-When Elvis is found I’m convinced he will be playing a Mcilroy A55.
#79 -During family gatherings I will be less likely to say something that will offend my mother-in-law if I am occupied playing my new Mcilroy A55.

#75-You could say I want to win the Mcilroy for medical reasons ... I have G.A.S.!
#74- So that I won’t have to bother Santa Claus with another Christmas letter begging for a Mcilroy in cocobolo!
#73- So that my dog will not have to listen to the sound of an inferior guitar as she rests comfortably at my feet while I play my new A55 on the front porch.
#72- Josh Billings once said, “Life consists not in holding good cards but in playing those you hold well.”
#71 If you are going to win a guitar why not make it the best!!!
#70- Music that comes from the soul can be played on any instrument but it sure sounds divine on a guitar that is created by a divinely inspired luthier... I believe Dermot has such a gift. I have never played an instrument that creates the soul satisfying sounds that my AJ25 does ... only a fool would pass up the opportunity to win one of Mr. Mcilroy’s creations!
#69- To sit on my deck every morning and watch the reflection of the rising sun in the finish on my Cocobolo Mcilroy!
#68-With my three guitar playing sons moving back home I will need another Mcilroy just to get some fret time ... of course they are all too young for cocbolo!
#67- It’s kind of like Lays Potato Chips, once you play one Mcilroy you must play another, and another, and.....
#66- John Fowler made me do it! Think of me as your Monster Dr. Fowler. If you recall in Mary Shelley’s novel the Monster confronts Dr. Frankenstein and tells Victor that as a creator he owes something to his creation, I think you can see where I am going with this.....
#65- I am working on playing two guitars at the same time and another Mcilroy will give me a balanced sound....
#64- winning a new Mcilroy will actually allow me to leave each Mcilroy in a set tuning longer, and thereby allow me more playing time by cutting down on my tuning time! Who wouldn't want more fret time???
#63- Wining the A55 will increase and decrease my fret-time. If I win the A55 I won’t fret about finding a new guitar, consequently I this extra time can be spent on exploring the frets of my new Mcilroy!
#62- in a world filled with the temporary, often fleeting, and disposable it is good to have something that is permanent and lasting... that will resonate throughout my days.... a Mcilroy guitar is just such a thing

#57- Guitars are my friends... My Mcilroy is a good friend. You simply can’t have enough good friends
#56- A new Mcilroy will help me beat the heat & humidity. I’ll simply play a Beach Boys Tune on my deck and it will cools my whole state of mind!!
#55- I like to waste lots of time on a lump of wood with six strings on it... oh yeah, a very nice lump of wood is better than any old lump of wood...that should be reason enough!!!!
#54-Everyone knows playing the guitar attracts and excites the opposite sex and the better looking the guitar (ie: a cocobolo Mcilroy) attracts the better looking members of the opposite sex... need I say more

Considering that I've visited Durango a number of times (Love it!!) and have been surfing the web re: acoustic transducers for a while, I'm surprised and disappointed that I haven't found y'all 'til now. But - I'm really impressed, and glad! I'll be in touch!

Dancing in the dark

Days like this

Dermot Mcilroy uses the most amazing woods for his guitars! I have often looked at the selection of models (both on your site and his) and wished on day to hit the lottery so I could afford to buy one of his beautiful instruments. Maybe my dream will come true!

Good luck in your business. I'm glad there are sites out there like yours that offer smaller builders to the public.

Good prices!

great site! i wish i knew of this site earlier!

Great site. Wonderful customer service.

Great Site. You are typically my first stop for strings and accessories. Price and service are great. Just wish I had the funds to pick up one of those McIlroys. I've played a A25c and an AS15 and fell in love with both of them. All I need is money(or a little luck).

Great website! I recommend all my friends who are looking for equipment to this website!

Hail Mcilroy, full of tone, blessed art thou amoungst acoustics!

Having married a McIlroy, I know how incredible they are. It would be a dream come true to have another one.

Hello beholders of heaven-sent instruments, October 1st is my birthday. One way to make hard-gigging son-of-a-gun happy is to reward him with a Mcilroy. It will be good for your karma.

Hello John - hope you are doing well. Thought of you because I just completed the copy for our latest CD, which should be manufactured in about a month. In the notes I thanked you and and Shoreline for providing the guitars used on the album, specifically crediting Dermot McIlroy and Roger Bucknall. The McIlroys and Fyldes were used almost exclusively on the album to beautiful effect. Thanks again for turning me on to them! Who knows, perhaps this will be a winning entry!

Hi John, I am pretty sure I was on your email list before your move to CO, but you may as well check. Still playing the Northwood MJ with the bearclaw spruce top that I picked up from you, and I get comments (especially from the sound crew) about how well it performs. Great choice, and I never would have even looked at it if you had not suggested it. THANK YOU! Hope all is well with you and yours, and that you are experiencing all that you had hoped for with the move. God bless

Honestly, i can't think of anything to say except that that guitar makes me drool.

Hope I win! I bought a beautiful Northwood MJ Mahogany from you and its my favorite. It just keeps getting better with age. Thanks.

how deep would the oceans be if there were no sponges in it?

howdy i really like your site , it is full of excitement

I wanna ROCK!

I am broke! please give me a new guitar

i am so poor i have to win a guitar:)

I am trying to win this guitar for my psychology teacher who has no wife or children and wants to set off into the sunset with this guitar in hand.

i appreciate the way you guys do business. It's not every day where you find someone who appreciates their customers like you do.

I bought a McIlroy last year from you and have e-mailed Dermot several times since to tell him how much I enjoy my guitar.

I deserve it!

I'd chew off my right arm to own one, but then I couldn't play

I dream of a Mcilroy with cocobolo eyes...

I enjoy browsing your website. You have some wonderful guitars that really make me drool! I hope one day I can save up enough to buy one of them. That's my dream! Thank you!

I finally have a comment to make--I am really hoping and praying I win this guitar--These Mcilroy guitars are gorgeous!! Also, my PUTW pickup is the best single pickup I have ever used. It's easy to use and sounds like my guitar--not quite as airy as a mic but it is FAR less troublesome with feedback. Sometimes I combine it with a mic, sometimes not--doesn't really need one. If I win the Mcilroy, it will get a PUTW.

I gotta win!!!

I have 2 cats and they love music, I think

I have a model A30 and LOVE IT!!

i hope i win so i can give to my brothers who lost everything in new orleans in hurricane katrina. their band, the muddpigs, was just getting great recognition. they will rebuild though! thanks!

I hope I win that 7 string bass !! [huh?]

I hope some day I can afford one of your guitars, but 'til then I'll just keep drooling away at your reviews. Nice site. Thanks.

I lost my (2) FAVORITE GUITARS IN A HOUSE fire. I would love to win a quality guitar of yours to replace one of them. Thanks for the great opportunity to enter.

I love Mcilroy!

I love my McIlroy A25c

I love to play guitar!

I love you guys!

I LOVE YOUR GUITARS!!!!!!PLEASE,PLEASE,PLEASE pick ME to win ONE!!!!!!!!

I love your guitars.I can't afford to purchase one at this time due to 10 operations on my left knee (I had a total knee replacement) done this month. I am a decent guitar player without a guitar. Please help. Thanks.

I love your site. its like guitar "porn"

I love your store. This is my sole supplier (and that of the friends who I do work for) for acoustic guitar amplification equipment.

i need a guitar, i am poor !

I normally cannot spend time reading (even) a page of a website but...I've spent over an hour READING each topic (on the left margin) in sequential order and am just starting with "SPECIALS". You are doing the job right! Honest, from the heart ('your money is where your heart is...') job (rather interest/hobby). I am just now learning much about acoustic and it's from all the reading in the past hour!! I'm glad I discovered your site while searching for "AER". "Quality from the heart"... will never go out of fashion. More power to you!!!

I picked up my AJ25 yesterday and miraculously played the Eagles song “Ol’55”... which I have never played before! Tell me that ain’t an omen baby!!!

I play in an Irish band in MN- would love to show case this Irish made guitar on stage!

I play the mandolin also.

I pretty much entered this giveaway out of desperation. I need an acoustic guitar so ungodly bad and cant afford one, this is my last resort. Maybe I can make something of myself with it. If I win it, I will definitely plug shoreline music to the fullest extent.

I purchased a Mcilroy guitar in 2001 in Dublin, Ireland and I couldn't be happier with it. It is a guitar of superiour quality. Since that time I have wanted to include another Mcilory guitar to my collection. As a professional musician it has greatly enhanced my musicianship as well as my fan base. My fans often inquire about my unique guitar. Thank you Mcilroy Guitars for your superiour quality.

I really have no right to do this..........just couldn't resist. I love the A25, along with the Goodall CJ I bought from you last year! Great instruments from a GREAT dealer! :)

I want to WIN

I was made aware of your website by a fellow Songramp songwriter. I must say I am very impressed that such a business exists to promote the smaller and talented luthier. Congrats. I am bookmarked. And I am thirsty for a Mcilroy guitar!

I will beat down all of them on the way to victory.

I will win. Oh yes, I will win.

I will win. that's all there is to it.

If I win this honey of a shoebox, I could well be tempted to your beautiful part of this ants' nest to pick it up.

If I win this I'll really like you guys

I'll be back.

I'm a really glad owner of a McIlroy AS20 guitar purchased in January 2005. It should be wonderful to open the doors of my home to another "babe"!!

I'm allergic to my cat.

I'm almost certain I'm going to win, so could you please order the A55 with a 1.75" nut at least.

I'm a customer. Correction. I'm a happy customer. Congratulations!

In for a penny...

incredulous!

It would be pretty sweet to win this, I won't lie. But even if I don't, let it be known that I think it's really cool what you're doing.

It's gonna be mine.

its me again praying to win that 7 string Mcilroy bass and im going to music stores and practicing on their basses to get better. It's me! [huh? again]

I've been paying a daily pilgrimage to your website for the last three yrs and pretty much read all the reviews. Pilgrimage is the wrong word I know, but you get the picture. I'm graduating this summer from university (very, very broke!) and will promptly begin saving up to get myself a guitar from your website (Alas! I am a very broke student!). It sure would be nice win one of your guitars. That would be a God send indeed! That's it! P.S. Thank you John, and all those behind the scenes for the honesty, enthusiasm and humour that goes into the reviews. Its really appreciated and is a breath of fresh air.Its always difficult knowing who to trust, especially when it comes to guitars. Too many biases and agendas to contend with you see.

I've gotten to the point where I'm practicing rasgueados on my unplugged CBS Strat. And I don't even know what rasgueados are. Me need guitar box.

I've played and drewled over the McIlroy guitars available at the local dealer here in Dublin. Could never afford one, so to win one... would.. be... Amazing!!

I've salivated over Mcilroy guitars for long enough without any chance of affording one. Thanks for the opportunity to have even the faintest of playing such a finely crafted instrument.

John, You're crazy, but I'm not complaining!

Just wanted to say that Cocobolo is not a popular choice here in Austin, but I think it's a great wood that doesn't get enough recognition sometimes. Way to GO!!! Ya'll have great taste.Keep up the good work and acoustic vibes at Shoreline Music

Last Day! Pick me, Pick me!!

Last one, sure hope I win this. Thanks for the opportunity John.

Let me win please, thank you.

The cocobolo certainly looks great, and if the tonal characteristics prove commensurate it should be a guitar to conjure with!the northwood i bought was absolutely beautiful. thanks.

The odds must be astronomical, but here goes...

This could be the start of a beautiful friendship...

With the Mcilroy A55 i would wish to create songs of saviours and lifes troubles. I wish to relate to people. The A55 is more than just a guitar for me its a vent for my feelings and anecdotes.

WOW!

Wow! This is a beautiful give away,I had an accident in 1988 working in the woods that left me paraplegic and because I played a little bit of guitar before I tought that with all the time I have now it would be good to start practicing again, so since than I played on average 1 to 1.5hrs./day and really enjoy it I have a Norman ST68 at the moment and would really like to play with a Mcilroy I think they are perfect guitars!

wow, even before my first cup of coffee -- I'm remembering to fill out his form and submit for another day. cheers!
