Audioengine Speakers
Audioengine Speakers are a long-overdue addition to the Shoreline Music lineup. I try to make sure that everything a performing guitarist could want is available here: amps, straps, tuners, cables, DIs, and all the other stuff I use when I'm onstage. About the only thing missing is Hall's cough drops (for those long vocal sets). However, a lot of our time as guitarists is spent not onstage, but instead learning from a recording, or mixing tracks we've laid down in GarageBand, or simply listening to our libraries of Michael Hedges and Paul Galbraith and Pierre Bensusan guitar music. What's needed for all that is a good pair of speakers, ideally ones that won't cost an arm and a leg.

Enter Audioengine. There are of course lots of good speakers out there, at all sorts of prices. But when it came time to bring on the one speaker line that would be perfect for how our customers use their music, and would boast killer tone without breaking the bank, Audioengine was really the only choice. Their list of audio industry accolades and awards is a mile long, which is reminiscent of the universal praise heaped on Grado Labs Headphones. These speakers are often referred to as "entry-level audiophile", and that's because they sound so much better than speakers that cost twice as much. You're going to love them.

Audioengine Speaker Models:

A2 - It's a simple fact that the speakers built into computers are too small to generate really good tone. That's why there's such a huge market for external computer speakers. But I listen to a lot of instrumental music, and I just don't find most of those systems very accurate or dynamic—that's why I never did part with my old Monsoon flat-panels. That's also why I'm so excited about these new Audioengine A2s. Finally, someone has done desktop speakers right. The sound is full, accurate and dynamic, and it's rich enough that you may even find yourself wondering where the sub is hiding (you can of course purchase Audioengine's AS8 separately). And I'm certainly not the only one who has come to this conclusion. Consider the following review from Stereophile magazine: "I have never been more impressed with or more stunned by a component I've reviewed for Stereophile than I was with the Audioengine 2. The level of sound quality produced by this uncolored, detailed, articulate, and dynamic speaker, in all situations, was beyond reproach, and its ratio of value to cost borders on the criminal." I couldn't agree more. 6" x 4" x 5". Available in black or white. I also recommend grabbing the ADS1 stand/riser listed below. (front view) (rear view) (with iPod)

A5 - The Audioengine A5 is a technically a bookshelf speaker, but its tone is anything but small. It is as rich and satisfying as the aforementioned A2, but with the added fullness and dynamics of a larger speaker cabinet. The tone is everything we value here at Shoreline: accurate and musical, without the fake bass boost that so often counts as good tone. But the tone is just the beginning with these speakers. Audioengine has engineered them to play nicely with all your audio systems, whether wired or wireless. If you want to go wireless, you can plug in an Airport Express or Audioengine's W1 or W2 (listed below). If you just want to plug in your iPod, it has a USB port to power the iPod, and the A5 actually comes with all the necessary connecting cables. If you're looking for a versatile home speaker with killer tone, these are worth some serious consideration. 10" x 7" x 7". Available in black or white. (front view) (rear view)

AS8 - While the A2 and A5 speakers do not, to my ear, really need a subwoofer, there are plenty of applications that call for a little extra low end. In these situations, the AS8 perfectly complements the rest of the Audioengine lineup. 11" x 11" x 11". Available in black or white (front view)

Audioengine Accessories

AW1 and AW2 - If you've ever wanted to hear that guitar track from your laptop's iTunes library on a bigger set of speakers than sits on your desk, you know that it can be a hassle. Burn a disc and play on a CD player? Plug the laptop's line out into the aux jack on your stereo? Well, there's a much easier solution: With Audioengine's AW1, you can connect your laptop (or any other audio source) to your stereo's speakers wirelessly, or, if you're using a pair of A5s, you can easily connect to the USB power port on the back, and you're ready to rock. The AW2 gives you an iPod connector on the broadcast end of things so you can do the same with any iPod or iPhone. There are many ways to hear you music wirelessly, but none is as simple, functional, great-sounding and affordable as the AW1 and AW2. We use the AW1 in our house nearly every day, and I can report that it works flawlessly. (AW1)
