Sunrise Pickups
Sunrise Pickups have for years set the standard against which all other soundhole magnetic pickups are judged. In fact, they aren't just the king of the hill among magnetic pickups—there are many players who rank Sunrise pickups above even the best soundboard and undersaddle pickups. Chances are, if you've been to a guitar concert any time in the last 25 years, you've run across at least one of these pickups, if not many. The best live sound I've ever heard came from the 1971 Martin D-28 played by the late Michael Hedges. His system? A Sunrise pickup (well, blended with a FRAP soundboard pickup). And if the endorsement of Hedges isn't enough, consider the rest of the Sunrise Pickups client list. All of them, like Hedges, are legendary for their live tone: Leo Kottke, Shawn Colvin, Jackson Browne, Lyle Lovett, Ry Cooder, Ben Harper, Bonnie Raitt, Richard Thompson, and many, many more.

Sunrise Pickups are handbuilt by Jim Kaufman in limited numbers, but this allows the finest attention to detail and craftsmanship. Each pickup has individually adjustable pole pieces to give you maximum control over string balance and tone. They also come with a transferable lifetime guarantee—no doubt because of their remarkably sturdy construction and high-quality internal components. Jim also builds preamp/buffer boxes to accompany the pickups. We strongly recommend using these even if you already have some sort of outboard preamp you're using.

Sunrise Pickups:

S-1 - The S-1 is the basic Sunrise soundhole pickup, with an 8" wire for internal connection to other internal wiring (the 8" wire will not reach a jack in the tailblock by itself). If you're wiring a Sunrise together with another pickup that already has a strapjack and long enough internal wiring in place, this is the model to get. (high-res picture)

S-1 Longwire - The Longwire version of the Sunrise pickup includes a 24" connecting wire. This allows you to install the pickup without having to wire it to an internal jack. This is perfect if you're looking for a way to switch the pickup between guitars, or if you just don't want to drill a hole in your tailblock for a regular jack. Please note that the standard Longwire model terminates in a bare lead. That's the Sunrise pickup to get if you're wiring to a TRS internal jack (as you might find in a Baggs I-Beam Active or a PUTW #54). But if you're planning on plugging directly into a jack with a guitar cord, you'll need to get the model with the 1/4" jack attached, the LW/J.

S-2 - The S-2 uses the same award-winning soundhole pickup as the S-1, but this package includes an installation kit. The kit comprises a stereo endpin jack, in-line mini jacks, and a Mogami low-noise cable. This is the model to order if you're going to be using the Sunrise as a standalone pickup. I also strongly recommend ordering the pre-wired version unless you're handy with a soldering iron—for $10 more, it's worth avoiding the hassle.

Sunrise Preamps:

SB1 - The SB1 is specifically tuned to match the output of Sunrise pickups, so we strongly recommend this if you're thinking about buying an S1 or S2. It's a true black box, with only ins and outs and no controls of any kind, but it gets the job done perfectly. (picture)

    SB2 - The SB2 is a two-channel version of the SB1, ideal if you're planning on dual-sourcing. (picture)

Please note: Sunrise pickups are always in great demand. We do our best to get as many of these as possible, but supplies tend to be very limited. Please contact us before purchasing to confirm that we have what you need in stock.
